The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhassan Shaibu Suhuyini says the Electoral Commission would face the strong opposition of the minority in Parliament if it returns its proposed Constitutional Instrument without the directed amendment.
The MP gave the signal in response to the EC Chairperson Jean Mensah’s outburst against the directive by Parliament for the inclusion of the guarantor system as a form of identification.
EC’s proposed CI included only Ghana card as identification for the purposes of voter registration despite admissions by the National Identification Authority that not all prospective applicants had the Ghana card.
Jean Mensah at a press conference defended the EC’s position and indicated that the EC intended to send the CI back to Parliament in the same form.
Speaking to Sena Nombo on the Gold Morning Conversation, Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini said the minority stands by its position and would oppose the EC’s CI in their numbers.
According to him the EC’s CI would do more harm than good as it would disenfranchise most voters.
