The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) conducted a targeted patrol along the Asankrangwah–Bawdie–Bogoso corridor in the Western Region, covering parts of Wassa Amenfi Central and Wassa Amenfi East.
The Taskforce raided four illegal mining sites and destroyed nine water pumps and eight chanfang machines used to support mining activities.
The operation followed an earlier enforcement action in the same area. Despite the destruction of equipment at some sites the previous day, personnel observed that illegal miners had returned and resumed operations, underscoring the persistence of mining activities along the corridor.
The Taskforce also noted that some illegal miners continue to benefit from local support, while some landowners reportedly make farmland available for mining. The availability of mining equipment on credit was also identified as a factor enabling operators to quickly replace destroyed equipment and return to affected sites.
NAIMOS will maintain follow-up operations and surveillance in the area to prevent the re-establishment of illegal mining sites, dismantle supporting infrastructure, and reduce operators’ capacity to resume activities following enforcement action.
