Former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has rendered an unreserved apology to the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sammy Gyamfi, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over comments he made during a television discussion.
In a statement dated August 20, 2026, Mr Vanderpuye said he had reflected on his comments made during his appearance on Citi TV and accepted responsibility for failing to properly communicate his intended position.
He stressed that it was never his intention to undermine Mr Gyamfi or support attacks being directed at him and the GoldBod by political opponents.
“My record, my convictions and my commitment to the NDC would never permit me to knowingly strengthen the hands of our political opponents against one of our own,” he said.
Mr Vanderpuye explained that his intention during the discussion was to defend the work of GoldBod and the efforts of Mr Gyamfi. However, he acknowledged that his reaction to what he described as sustained propaganda and attacks surrounding the issue resulted in his position being communicated in a manner that created a different impression.
“For that error of judgement and communication, I am sincerely sorry,” he said.
He offered a specific apology to Mr Gyamfi, describing him as a dedicated member of the NDC who had served the party with courage and commitment over the years.
Mr Vanderpuye also apologised to the leadership, members and grassroots supporters of the NDC who were disappointed or hurt by his comments.
He acknowledged that party members expect those entrusted with leadership responsibilities, as well as those aspiring to higher positions within the party, to demonstrate solidarity, sound judgement and loyalty to the party’s collective cause.
The former legislator reaffirmed his commitment to the NDC, stating that he had spent a significant part of his political life standing and fighting for the party through difficult personal and political circumstances.
“The NDC is my political home, and my loyalty and commitment to its cause remain unwavering,” he said.
