The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Secretary for Ablekuma Central Habib Abubakar says the NPP has received intelligence suggesting that some individuals are planning to seek revenge for the violent incidents that occurred in the constituency during the 2020 elections.
It would be recalled that sporadic gunshots and attendant violence during the 2020 general elections at the collation center in the Ablekuma Central constituency claimed the life of 30-year-old, Ibrahim Abass and left many constituents heavily wounded.
Ibrahim Abbas died from gunshot wounds while receiving medical treatment at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital.
The shooting took place at the collation center in the Ablekuma Central Constituency, located at the Odorkor Police Church. Four others, including a police officer, were also shot in the incident.
According to report, the suspected shooter only identified as Kola is facing criminal charges for the shooting incident.
Speaking to Radio Gold’s Emmanuel Coffie, Habib Abubakar described the 2020 election casualty as unfortunate but was quick to add that their intelligence suggests some individuals are planning to seek revenge.
He assured that the NPP has passed on the information to the Ghana Police Service and is taking proactive steps to ensure a peaceful election.
When asked about his party’s response to the intelligence, Habib Abubakar said the NPP is prioritizing peace throughout their campaign.
“We are preaching peace and promoting violence-free elections,” he said. “We want to ensure that our supporters and all stakeholders remain calm and peaceful during the election period.”
He encouraged politicians to focus on issue-based campaigning, rather than resorting to violence and intimidation.
