The Vice presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Opoku Agyemang has appealed to the people of the Western Region to vote for change in the upcoming elections.
Speaking during her three-day campaign tour of the region, Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed her dismay over the difficulties fishermen in the region face accessing premix fuel and outboard motors.
She acknowledged the hardships caused by the shortage of premix fuel and the high cost of outboard motors, which the indigenes said has hindered their fishing activities.
“I beg of you, vote for change,” she urged the crowd at Ahanta West. “Let us work together to ensure our fishermen have access to the resources they need to thrive.”
Professor Opoku-Agyemang promised that an NDC government would prioritize the needs of fishermen, providing them with affordable premix fuel and outboard motors.
She said the NDC has outlined policies in its 2024 manifesto that would revitalize the fishing industry, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in coastal communities.
She pleaded with the chiefs and fishermen to vote massively for the NDC to reverse the situation, warning that if things remain the same, the situation will worsen.
She criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for destroying water bodies in the western Region through galamsey activities and failing to create jobs for the youth.
“The only way out of this problem is to vote out the NPP government and bring in the NDC,” she told a large crowd at Mpohor.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang said that the NDC prioritizes the needs of fishermen, recalling that the late President John Atta Mills was enstooled as a chief fisherman during his regime due to the NDC’s good policies for fisherfolks.
She appealed to the audience to be ambassadors for change and vote for the NDC to address the economic difficulties inflicted by the Akufo-Addo government.
As she continues her tour, which is expected to end on Thursday, Professor Opoku-Agyemang is expected to reiterate her message of hope and change to the people of the Western Region.
Professor Opoku Agyemang aims to convince voters in the western Region that the NDC is committed to addressing the struggles of market women, the fishing community, and various communities at large.
