Perfect Star Media has officially launched the 2025 edition of its annual Basic Schools Assessment Contest, an educational initiative aimed at motivating students and encouraging academic excellence among basic school pupils.
This year’s contest saw participation from about 14 schools across the Greater Accra Region, with students writing qualifying exams to advance to the finals, which will be held in Kumasi as part of the Northern Sector competition. The regional contest took place at Accra Academy Senior High School.
Speaking at the event, Pastor Philip Sarpong, Chief Executive Officer of Perfect Star Media, expressed optimism about the impact of the contest. He noted that the initiative has significantly encouraged students to take their studies seriously. Pastor Sarpong also appealed to the Ministry of Education to support the project to further promote learning at the basic level.
Also present at the event was Kenneth Wontumi, an officer from the Instructional Resource Unit at the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). He advised parents to prioritize their children’s education by offering support at home and collaborating with teachers to ensure better academic performance.
Monica Kumahor, the Director of Education for Ablekuma Central, praised the contest, describing it as a “wonderful initiative” that has helped students improve their performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). She also highlighted how the contest helps students develop social skills through interaction and teamwork.
The Basic Schools Assessment Contest continues to serve as a platform for nurturing young minds and fostering a culture of academic excellence in Ghana.
