Police foil attack by a mob of 50 youth on Newmont Ahafo staff; 5 injuries recorded

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service on July 14, 2021, foiled an attack on the Rank Camp of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited in the Ahafo Region.

Preliminary police investigation indicates that the young men who attacked the camp numbered up to 50. They were said to be wielding offensive weapons including pump-action guns, cutlasses and clubs.

The Police said these men broke into the camp gate amidst firing and although they were signalled to stop by the operational team, they continued and broke the chain of the locked camp gate.

The five were then rushed to the hospital to be taken care of and are currently responding to treatment.
