President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country, effective today, January 8, 2025.
This decision was made in accordance with the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) and its amendments.
The revocation affects not only the MMDCEs but also Assembly Members appointed under the relevant local government act.
In the interim, Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAs have been directed to assume responsibility as Acting Chief Executives until new appointments are made.
This move comes shortly after Mahama’s swearing-in as Ghana’s President, marking a significant step in reshaping the country’s local governance structure. The decision is expected to pave the way for new appointments that align with Mahama’s administration’s goals and policies.
