President John Dramani Mahama has been honoured with the prestigious Africa Democracy Award 2025 by the Association of Political Consultants – Africa during the 8th Africa Political Summit (APS 2026) held on May 14, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
The award recognises African leaders who demonstrate resilience in leadership, unwavering commitment to democratic governance, dedication to constitutional rule, and distinguished public service across the continent.
Receiving the award on behalf of President Mahama, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, who represented the Chief of Staff, described the President as “an exceptional democrat” whose commitment to constitutional governance has earned him recognition both locally and internationally.
“The President is an exceptional democrat, who has been recognised internationally for his consistent and abiding belief in constitutional governance,” Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah stated during the ceremony.
The summit brought together political leaders, governance experts, policy strategists, and democracy advocates from across Africa to deliberate on strengthening democratic institutions and promoting accountable leadership on the continent.
The recognition adds to President Mahama’s growing continental and international profile as a statesman committed to democratic values, peace, and inclusive governance in Africa.
