President Mahama met with the National House of Chiefs to discuss key issues, including constitutional review.
The Chiefs expressed joy over the scrapping of the Chieftaincy Ministry and their new role in the National Democratic Congress administration.
Daasebra Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene, commended President Mahama for inviting them and for scrapping the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs. He pledged their support for the government’s success.
President Mahama tasked the National House of Chiefs to provide input during the constitutional amendment process, referencing recommendations from the Fiadzo and Kyei Mensah Bonsu committees.
He emphasized the need for a codified succession plan to prevent Chieftaincy disputes and reiterated his campaign promise to involve Chiefs in license issuance and environmental law enforcement.
The President assured the Chiefs of regular meetings on national interest matters and thanked them for their support during his campaign.
