President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama, will this morning join world leaders at the Opening Session of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, hosted by President Xi Jinping and UN Women.
The high-level meeting, which brings together Heads of State and Government from across the globe, seeks to renew the commitments made under the 1995 Beijing Declaration and accelerate efforts toward achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and leadership.
“The empowerment of women is central to Ghana’s development agenda,” President Mahama said.
“We have made progress, but we must continue to break barriers and create equal opportunities for women and girls in every sector.”
First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama, who has been a strong advocate for women’s health and education, added that the meeting offers a renewed global platform for action.
“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every woman and girl can live in dignity, free from discrimination and violence,” she stated.
In the afternoon, President Mahama and his delegation will hold discussions with Chinese business leaders to explore new investment opportunities and partnerships in key sectors.
Later in the evening, the President is expected to engage in a bilateral meeting with the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, focusing on strengthening Ghana–China relations and expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and technology.
