President John Dramani Mahama this evening welcomed Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson back home to Ghana and expressed deep appreciation to the Cardinal for accepting to preach at the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
President Mahama thanked Cardinal Turkson for honoring the invitation, describing his participation as a significant gesture of unity and faith at a pivotal moment for the nation.
In his response, Cardinal Turkson humbly remarked, “If the President of your country calls, you can’t say no.” He emphasized the vital role both the Church and the State must play in supporting Ghana’s development and deepening its democratic values.
Cardinal Turkson also highlighted an emerging initiative within the Catholic Church aimed at promoting sustainability through its existing institutional structures. He noted that a pilot project is currently underway in Nigeria, with plans to expand to other parts of the world, including Ghana.
Having arrived in Accra earlier today, Cardinal Turkson conveyed his gratitude to President Mahama for the invitation to lead the sermon at the Thanksgiving Service.
President Mahama has designated July 1st as Ghana’s official National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, bringing together both Christian and Muslim communities to offer collective prayers for the nation.
