As part of government’s commitment to inclusive development under the NDC’s RESET agenda, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has completed a comprehensive nationwide road infrastructure assessment tour across all sixteen regions.
The initiative, led by Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, was disclosed during the latest session of the Government Accountability Series held at Jubilee House.
According to the Minister, the tour was a key pillar of the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto promise to restore transparency, equity, and strategic planning in the road sector.
“This proactive exercise allowed us to collect critical on-the-ground data, engage directly with affected communities, and inspect both completed and stalled projects firsthand,” Hon. Agbodza noted.
“Findings from the tour revealed significant disparities in road quality between urban and rural areas, with numerous priority corridors in need of urgent attention”.
He noted that several abandoned or delayed projects were also identified, often due to funding gaps or contractual challenges.
The Ministry emphasized that insights from the tour are being used to realign the sector’s strategic focus, ensuring that upcoming road investments reflect equity and impact—core tenets of the RESET agenda.
“This isn’t just a road inspection; it’s a reset of how we think about infrastructure development—driven by fairness, evidence, and accountability,” the Minister added.
The Ministry is expected to announce a revised project implementation framework in the coming weeks, alongside budget reallocations to address the most critical infrastructure needs across the country.
