Former captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah along with other ex-players, have met with the Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II to discuss plans for constructing a new health facility at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana’s premier healthcare institution.
Established in 1924, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital will commemorate its 100th anniversary this year. To mark this milestone, the Ga Mantse has initiated plans to build a new 24-hour pharmacy annexe and renovate deteriorating facilities within the hospital.
The meeting took place at Ga Mantse’s private residence on Wednesday, July 18, 2024, and was attended by notable ex-Black Stars players such as Stephen Appiah, Derek Boateng, Godwin Attram, Sam Johnson, Emmanuel Armah, Awuley Quaye Jr., among others.
Stephen Appiah in his address expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, stating, “I’m pleased that you want to take this initiative. We understand the influence we have as a group and the support available. While I cannot make promises, we are aware of our capabilities.”
Hearts of Oak legend, Sam Johnson, emphasised the importance of the project and pledged their support to make it a reality. Derek Boateng also affirmed his commitment to the project, describing it as a dream come true after meeting with the Ga Mantse.
Godwin Attram however, appealed to Ga Mantse to consider supporting the construction of a football pitch at Indafa Park following the completion of the Korle Bu facility.
In response, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II expressed his readiness to develop Indafa Park and underscored the significance of undertaking projects like the Korle Bu Hospital to leave a lasting legacy in the Ga State.
“I will discuss with Nii Sempe to join us in this project. Our colleague Ben Nunoo Mensah will reach out to you to explore how you can contribute. I fully support this endeavour, which I believe is for the benefit of the entire Ga State. Let us aim to create a lasting legacy,” stated the Ga Mantse
