Tertiary, Senior High, Basic schools in Upper West Region ready for resumption of academic work.

Authorities in tertiary, Senior High, and basic schools in the Upper West region have expressed their readiness to go back to school as instructed by President Akufo Addo.

This a follows a massive 3-day disinfection excercise in the over 730 tertiary, senior high and basic schools in the region.

The disinfection excercise is aimed at reducing the spread of the deadly covid-19 virus as schools across the country prepare to restart full academic work after over a 10-month break due the global corona virus pandemic.

President Nana Akufo- Addo in his 21st Covid-19 address to nation, directed all basic, senior high schools(SHS’s) and tertiary institutions to be disinfected before reopening.
Briefing the media, the Upper West Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emmanuel Volsuuri said, his outfit has effectively disinfected all the schools in the region(public and private), therefore making it safe for students returning to school.
“So far so good, we have been able to disinfect almost all the over 730 schools in the region, including 41 SHSs, 687 basic schools, and 5 tertiary institutions.The excercise has been good”, he said.
Mr. Volsuuri pointed out that the excercise was to make the school environment safe for students, teachers, non-teaching staff and visitors against the covid-19 virus when full academic work resumes.
He allayed the fears of parent’s whose wards are returning to school against the covid-19.
Madam Albertina Tuurosungo, the Headmistress of Tupaso SHS, was optimistic that the disinfection excercise will be of immense benefit to the school as well as the students as previous disinfection excercises have done.
She said, apart from the Personal Protective Equipments(PPE’s) supplied by the government, the school through its Parents Teacher Association and other philanthropists, has also acquired some PPE’s to ensure the safety of the students when school resume.
Headteacher of the Imam Saddique Islamic KG and Primary school, Ibrahim Salis, in an interaction with the media was full of praise for the government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited for embarking on the disinfection excercise.
He however appealed to parents to also ensure that their wards are safe from contracting the covid-19 virus.
Some of the beneficiary schools include, WA Islamic Senior High School, Tupaso SHS, Imam Saddique Islamic KG and Primary, Busa M/A cluster of schools, among several others.
