Former President Mahama says the National Democratic Congress has lost confidence in the Electoral Commission’s process towards the compilation of a register for the upcoming election.
The Flagbearer of the NDC Mr. John Dramani Mahama made these remarks when he addressed a gathering of chiefs and Magazine workers in Sunyani earlier today.
He described the entire process as chaotic saying “we are not confident of the process that is going on. There is too much anarchy and disorder. We are not sure that we can have a credible register with which to have a free, fair and transparent election.”
Former President John Mahama was reacting to developments from the ongoing voters register exhibition exercise.
There have been reports of thousands of names missing from the voters’ register of some constituencies with the EC having to replace hundreds of polling station registers used for the first day of the exercise.
The NDC Flagbearer said this was evidence of the legendary incompetence exhibited by the EC in the management of the voters register compilation electoral process.
He said the EC’s handling of the entire process to compile a new register thus far “has the potential to create crisis in our country”.
The former President who was on a tour of the Bono region announced a suspension the tour over concerns about the new voters register.
He announced the suspension on his second day of his planned four-day tour of the Bono Region.
John Dramani Mahama said “the Electoral Commission should be prepared to take the blame if this country descends into chaos”.
Mr. Mahama therefore called on the international community to take an interest in the political developments in Ghana
In a related development, the Spokesperson of the NDC Campaign team in a statement issued on the matter also indicated that John Mahama’s Running mate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang would also cut short her weeklong tour of the Central Region.
