Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing the long-stalled Mamponteng Jubilee Market project in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Speaking during a tour of the project site, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang described the market as a vital hub for women traders in the municipality and underscored the need for a safe, modern facility to support their livelihoods.

She disclosed that government will mobilize the needed resources, including support from the District Assemblies Common Fund, to ensure the project sees completion after more than a decade of delay.
The market project, awarded in 2012 to Messrs. High A Limited at a cost of GH¢8.8 million, was designed to include a three-storey administration block, four two-storey buildings with 197 lockable shops, two banks, 188 stalls, a supermarket with warehouses, toll booths, and a daycare centre. Supervision was assigned to ABP Consult Limited.
However, work stalled in 2013 due to funding challenges, leaving traders to conduct their business in unsafe and congested conditions along major roads and beneath high-tension electricity poles. This situation has raised safety concerns and worsened traffic congestion in the municipality.

Kwabre East Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amankwah, lauded the Vice President’s assurance, saying it signaled “the dawn of a new era” for the local trading community. He expressed confidence that completing the project would not only improve safety and trading conditions but also increase internally generated revenue for the Assembly.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s visit to the Mamponteng market formed part of her working tour of the Ashanti Region. She also inspected facilities at Suame and Krofuom markets and paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.
