The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Felix Odartey Lamptey, has unveiled plans to expand school infrastructure in the municipality, beginning with the construction of 13 new classroom blocks for Gbawe Methodist Primary School and additional kindergarten facilities for the Gbawe Cluster of Schools.
The intervention is aimed at easing severe classroom congestion, with the Gbawe Cluster currently serving close to 5,000 pupils.
Speaking to journalists at the launch of the Weija-Gbawe Teachers’ Awards held at the Gbawe Cluster of Schools, Hon. Lamptey stressed that overcrowded classrooms could undermine students’ academic performance if not addressed promptly.
“As part of measures to provide a more conducive learning environment, we will also build fence walls around Oblogo School to protect students from external distractions during lessons,” he added.
The MCE further underscored the vital role teachers play in shaping society, noting that every profession begins with the guidance of a teacher.
“To become a journalist, a lawyer, a president, an MCE or DCE, a member of parliament or a minister—it all begins with a teacher,” Hon. Lamptey said.
He also pledged continuous support for the Teachers’ Awards initiative, affirming that the Assembly will collaborate with organizers to recognize and reward outstanding educators across the municipality.
