The NDC Professional Forum-USA has dismissed the “Great Transformational Plan” of former Minister of Trade and Industry Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen as shallow and without substance.
According to the group Mr. Kyerematen’s plan betrays his lack of appreciation of the challenges that confronted Ghana.
Mr. Kyerematen in a speech delivered on 10 January 2023 confirmed his ambition to lead the governing New Patriotic Party into the 2024 election as its Flagbearer and outlined his seven point plan “that will lead us (Ghana) to a more self-reliant and resilient economy.”
The speech comes a few days after Mr. Kyerematen tendered in his resignation as Trades and Industry minister, a position he held for six years.
Reacting to Mr. Kyerematen’s speech in a statement issued and signed by its President Arnold Appiah, NDC Pro-Forum USA expressed surprise at the former Trade Minister’s claim that the seven point plan was intended to address fragility and vulnerability of the Ghanaian economy.
The NDC Pro-Forum was particularly surprised at what it saw as the confusion of Mr. Kyerematen in his assessment of the economy as he claimed earlier in his speech that President Akufo-Addo laid a strong economic foundation.
“Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng appeared confused as in one breath claiming the Nana Addo administration has laid a strong foundation for the socio-economic development of our country and at the same time alluding to the fact that “akyea enso embu y3. To wit, the country is broken into pieces, but there is still hope.”
“Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng has shown that he is not different from Dr. Bawumia and President Nana Addo. Indeed, Mr. Kyeremanteng is a member of the economic management team who has run down the economy of Ghana. Inflation is all time high, unemployment is high, cost of living is high, interest rates are high and the cost of doing business is at all-time high. The cedi depreciation against the dollar is enough to tell the state of our economy,” the group stated.
The NDC Pro-Forum USA, was also of the opinion that Mr. Alan Kyerematen had ample time to propose the solutions contained in his ‘GTP’ to his former Boss to build the resilient economy that he was promising to ensure that Ghana did not find itself in the current crisis.
“For someone who has been in government before, under Ex-President Kuffour, one would have thought he would have learnt all these lessons and proffered the necessary solutions under Nana Addo,” the group stated.
The NDC Pro-Forum USA therefore dismissed Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s promise not to take Ghana back to the IMF.
“PROFORUM USA want to remind Mr. Kyerematen that all the policies touted by his NPP government have all failed. Absolutely none of them worked or achieved anything significant. It’s been a waste of time and resources under his NPP government.”
“Institutional transformation is key to the progress of our country but unfortunately, Mr. Alan Kyerematen does not have the credentials to be able to make it happen,” the statement indicated.
