President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the much-anticipated 24-Hour Economy policy has officially transitioned from a campaign slogan into a comprehensive national strategy aimed at boosting productivity and fostering inclusive economic growth.
Speaking at the official launch of the policy in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, President Mahama reflected on the journey of the initiative, which first gained public traction in 2024 during the election campaign.
“We have moved from slogan to strategy today,” he said. “In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention.
It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary—and that it was possible.”
While acknowledging the importance of the policy’s formal launch, President Mahama emphasized that its successful implementation will be the true measure of progress.
“Our task now is to ensure that the necessary change is realised through implementation.
This launch is not the end, but the beginning of a massive national mobilisation,” he stated.
He also addressed common misconceptions about the policy, stressing that the 24-Hour Economy initiative goes beyond merely extending work hours.
“Let me be clear: the 24+ Agenda is not just about working longer hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, and accelerating exports through well-structured and inclusive interventions.”
The 24-Hour Economy policy has been positioned as a cornerstone of the Mahama administration’s economic agenda.
It is expected to generate jobs, attract investment, and enhance Ghana’s global competitiveness by encouraging round-the-clock activity in key sectors of the economy.
