Foreign Affairs Minister Lauds Ivorian, Kuwaiti envoys for Deepening Ties

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has lauded the Ambassadors of Cote d’ Ivoire, Bernard Ehui Koutoua and Kuwait, Mohammed Hussain Al-Failakawi for their sterling performance during their tenure in the country.

 According to her the two diplomats during their stay in the country demonstrated high sense of cooperation to the development of Ghana.

Speaking at a farewell reception in honor of them, Madam Ayorkor Botchwey said the two diplomats have all served their countries with distinction and have contributed tremendously to the deepening and widening of the relations between their respective countries and Ghana.

According to her,” H.E. Mr. Bernard Ehui – Koutoua eight year tour of duty has been eventful and has led to the strengthening of relations and cooperation between our two countries, especially in the marketing of cocoa and on maritime security issues.”

“During his tenure of duty, Ghana and Cote d’ Ivoire signed agreements in the fields of Geological and Mining Cooperation as well, as Regional Integration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).”

Touching on the Kuwaiti ambassador, the Foreign Affairs Minister pointed out that “H.E. Mohammed Hussain Al-Failakawi became the first Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Ghana, following the official inauguration of the Embassy of Kuwait here in Accra in June 2015.”

“It was during his tenure that Ghana obtained a loan worth USD$ 24 million from the Kuwaiti Fund for Economic Development to build and develop 26 model secondary schools in the country.”

Madam Ayorkor   Botchwey also stressed that the Ambassador was also instrumental in getting Ghana to access a USD$ 10 million loan facility from the same Kuwaiti Fund for the Dome-Kitase Road Project.”

“Ghana’s bilateral relations with the State of Kuwait was given a further boost with the reciprocal opening of the Ghana Embassy in Kuwait City in August 2017 and the appointment of H.E. Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Yahaya Iddi as Ambassador adding that Ghana and Kuwait also signed a bilateral agreement on Political Consultations in 2018 to further enhance the relations, “she noted.

Meanwhile the two diplomats have expressed their appreciation to the Government of Ghana for the excellent relations between their countries.

They also applauded their respective Governments for the opportunity given them to serve, which according to them is a great mark of trust.
