The Ghanaian media is set to protest against Media Brutalities in the country on Friday July, 5th 2019.
The planned protest comes in the wake of the arrest and detention of two journalists from MORDERNGHANA by national security agencies.
A group calling itself the Media Coalition Against Abuse (MCAA) describes the incident as horrifying especially in the wake of allegations of torture against National Security.
The national security has indicated that the detained journalists were involved in cybercrime hence their arrest at the premises of the news portal on Thursday June 28th, 2019.
In a press statement, the convener of the group Emmanuel Gbikpo, says all though MCAA recognizes the right of state agencies to go after persons allegedly breaking the law, that right should be exercised in a manner that does not unduly subject the citizen to physical and psychological harm .
According to the Media foundation for West Africa, the past 18 months has witnessed 31 violations with over 40 victims.
MCAA is therefore pleading with Ghanaians to support them to protest against the intimidation of journalists in their line of duty by security agencies.
As part of the protest they are asking all journalists to wear Red attire to work on Friday July 5th 2019 to demonstrate the unhappiness of the fraternity at the treatment being meted to them by state actors
