A Parliamentary hopeful for the Ngleshie Amanfrom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Elvis Asiedu Antwi has gone to the rescue of the distressed Kokrobite Health Centre.

The philanthropist cum politician in a gesture running into thousands of Ghana cedis donated toiletries, detergents and cement for blocks to help the smooth discharge of medical care to residents in and around the Kokrobite community in the Ga South municipality.

The clinic, built by a Rotary Club member some 16 years ago has been left in a deplorable state and manned by a senior physician assistant and some nurses.

Touching on the rationale of the donation, Mr Asiedu Antwi said he was moved by the sad spectacle of the facility following a tour late last year. His tour shockingly revealed the distressed condition of the hospital which on several occasions treats patients in the open.

Mr Asiedu Antwi popularly known as General has for the last decade been having this annual ritual of donating to the poor and marginalised in society. For this year’s donation exercise, he chose the Kokrobite health facility as a means of providing a helping hand to the community which has made him who he is.

“In life, we need to be each other’s keeper. I believe in reaching out to those down the ladder. If God has helped us, it’s only prudent that we also reach out and give life to those who need it. I’ll encourage those in privileged positions to also emulate this gesture and help make our various communities better,” he said.

Presenting the items, the NPP parliamentary aspirant, who was in the company of close friends and campaign team members including musicians Kwabena Kwabena and Afriyie Wutah of the group Wutah, said his intervention was borne out of his desire to give back to his community. He also explained why he added cement bags to the items he donated.

“As you know, the Kokrobite Health facility lacks certain equipment’s and consumables crucial to the effective discharge of healthcare. Lack of space has been a challenge to the smooth discharge of duties. He promised to support them construct a new ward to take care of community members who hitherto, were being treated on the floor,” he told journalists after the donation.

The consummate politician said this will not be a nine day wonder and adopted the Kokrobite Health facility as his baby. He promised to rally support to give it the needed assistance to turn around the fortunes of the Hospital.

Afriyie Wutah and Kwabena Kwabena also lauded the contributions of Asiedu to their respective careers saying the Hospital will not lack essential commodities, now it has become the project of Asiedu Antwi.

Senior Physician Assistant in charge of the Kokrobite Heath Centre, Jerry Nunoo who was full of praise for the kind gesture promised the items will be put to judicious use.

Like the proverbial Oliver Twist, Mr Nunoo presented a long list of pressing items to the campaign team of Asiedu 2020 including the need for a Maternity Building, generator, Delivery bed etc.
