Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that, the free Senior High School policy being implemented by government is here to stay.
According to him the policy is a constitutional requirement that no government can reverse.
The former president was speaking at the 27th Residential Congress of the Ghana National Union of Technical Students at the Kumasi Technical University.
President Akuffo Addo addressing students at the Bolgatanga Senior High School on his latest 2 day tour of the Upper East region noted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former president Mahama will halt the policy should they win the 2020 election.
Addressing the Residential Congress of the Ghana National Union of Technical Students however, the former president said no government can reverse the policy which is guaranteed by the 1992 constitution but noted it is the duty of all governments to make the policy quality and enjoyable to all students.
“Free SHS is here to stay, indeed it is underpinned and guaranteed by the 1992 constitution and cannot be reversed by any government”.
The former president says his government is determined to make Secondary Education a beneficial learning experience for all Ghanaian Children more that the frustrated situation students are going through under the Akuffo Addo government.
He says before the 2020 election, he intends to lay out a detailed blue print for the educational sector and plans to make the free SHS policy sustainable.
The former president further noted his government will ensure technical and vocational education will be an alternative of first choice and not that of rejected students.
