Patience Botwe, the 18-year-old former housemaid of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has asked her lawyers to file a motion at the High Court. The motion says that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) must give them all the documents about their investigation into Cecilia Dapaah and her husband.
The lawyers filed the motion on Tuesday, June 12, 2024. Because of this, the court session planned for that day had to be postponed. In that session, Daniel Osei Kufuor, the former minister’s husband, was supposed to be asked more questions.
Patience Botwe’s lawyer told the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra that the motion is asking the court to order the OSP to give them documents. The lawyer said these documents will “help us ask Daniel Osei Kufuor the right questions.”
“On Wednesday, June 12, we filed a motion that is set to be heard on June 27. We are asking this honorable court to order the Office of the Special Prosecutor to give us documents. This will help us properly question the current witness and others mentioned in this case,” Komivi Dzortsi told the court.
Patience Botwe’s lawyer asked, “So, we humbly request the Honorable Court to give us more time to deal with the motion and get the documents.”
Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, the judge in charge, said the court would give the lawyer the date when the motion is supposed to be discussed. However, she said the court would think about whether other lawyers could ask questions to avoid making the trial take longer.
“I have listened to what A1’s (First Accused – Patience Botwe) lawyer has said. Knowing that he is still questioning PW1 (Daniel Osei Kufuor), I will give him the date,” Justice Simmons said.
She added, “To avoid wasting time on the trial date, the court will consider if other lawyers can ask questions while A1’s (Patience Botwe’s) lawyer gets the documents he needs for more questioning.”
