Businessman Richard Jakpa has made another claim about Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame’s attempts to implicate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the ongoing case about buying ambulances.
Mr. Jakpa said that the AG asked him to help get Dr. Forson sent to jail by the first week of May. According to Ghana’s constitution, a special election to fill a vacant seat cannot happen six months before a general election.
Jakpa said that this conversation took place at the home of his cousin, Justice Yonni Kulendi. He claimed that the AG pressured him there to give evidence against Dr. Forson.
During questioning by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s lawyer, Dr. Abdul Basit Aziz Bamba, Jakpa said that the AG told him he was under a lot of pressure from President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to make sure Dr. Forson was found guilty.
“…It was then he (AG) told me my brother, I am under pressure and I said, that is not my problem,” Mr. Jakpa said.
“Then he (AG) said the Finance Minister and the president are on my neck putting pressure. They want this case to be over by the first week in May,” Mr. Jakpa continued.
“I (Jakpa) asked him why the first week in May?”
“Then he (AG) said you may not know but according to the Constitution, you cannot have a special election six months before a general election.”
“So if I can work with him and get Ato Forson just one month in Nsawam (prison), his seat will be empty and we will have a special election.”
“And I told him (AG) that if you have a special election in Central region, how sure are you that you will win that election?”
“Then he said, Central region they are cheap, we will put a lot of money in it and we will win the election.”
He also claimed that the AG said if they win the election, the “NDC will come and beg us for forgiveness, and we will use it to get our things passed in Parliament.”
