The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professor Opoku Agyemang was on Tuesday, August 20, installed as the Development Queenmother of Sakumono by the chiefs of the community.
The ceremony took place during Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s campaign tour of the area, where she was warmly received by the chiefs and people of Sakumono.
The chiefs conferred on her the chieftaincy title “Narna Amarkie Kekleke Yoo I,” which symbolizes her role as a development-oriented leader and a mother figure to the community.
The occasion was observed by traditional leaders, NDC supporters, and community members, who gathered to witness the historic event.
In her acceptance speech, Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed profound gratitude to the chiefs and the people of Sakumono for honoring her with such an esteemed title.
“This recognition is not just a personal accolade; it is a call to action,” she stated, pledging to work tirelessly for the development of the community and to contribute positively to the country’s growth.
She indicated her commitment to addressing the needs of the Sakumono community, aiming to foster initiatives that would spur economic development in Sakumono.
She appealed to the chiefs and people of Sakumono to vote massively for the NDC presidential candidate, John Mahama.
She said there was a need for unity against poverty, reassuring the people of Sakumono and the entire nation that former President John Mahama was a trustworthy leader with the experience to navigate the country out of its current hardships.
She called on the chiefs and people of Sakumono to mobilize and make their voices heard at the polls and support the NDC to win the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
