Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the Electoral Commission are aimed at ensuring peace before, during, and after the 2024 general elections. He emphasized that these concerns do not stem from a dislike for the commission’s chair, Jean Mensa, and her deputies.
According to the NDC flagbearer, they want the commission to take its responsibilities seriously and get things right in the elections, which is why they have raised issues such as calling for a forensic audit of the voter register.
Mahama clarified, “Our issues with the Electoral Commission are not because we dislike the commissioners or the EC. Our concern is that we want peace during and after the election.
When we raise issues about the electoral process, it’s because we want the EC to do its job so that we can all have confidence in the process.”
He continued, “The only way to get the EC to do its job is to pressure them.
That’s why we’re organizing a demonstration at the EC office on the 17th of this month, next Tuesday.
This demonstration is not just for NDC members; it’s for all Ghanaians who want to join us in telling the EC to do its work properly so that we can have a peaceful election. That’s the purpose of the demonstration.”
Mahama made these remarks during a community engagement as part of phase two of his Greater Accra regional tour.”
