The First Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, has called on the Minister for Sports and Recreation to urgently appear before Parliament to provide a comprehensive briefing on Ghana’s preparations and participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which kicks off this Thursday.
According to Iddrisu, Parliament and the Ghanaian public deserve absolute clarity on the nation’s level of readiness for the global football showpiece, particularly regarding arrangements for supporters, ticket pricing, travel logistics, and other critical matters connected to the tournament.
Raising the issue on the floor of Parliament, the Tolon legislator stressed the need for transparency and accountability in managing all activities related to the World Cup. He noted that with the competition just days away, lawmakers must be fully informed about the plans put in place by the government and relevant sporting authorities.
Iddrisu expressed concern that many football enthusiasts and stakeholders continue to seek answers regarding the cost and availability of match tickets, as well as the mechanisms being used to facilitate access for Ghanaian supporters traveling to the tournament.
He argued that an official briefing from the Sports Minister would help address public anxiety and provide Parliament with a vital opportunity to scrutinize the country’s preparations ahead of the competition.
Furthermore, the Minority Whip urged the Ministry to outline all financial commitments made by the state in relation to the tournament and to explain the specific measures being implemented to ensure value for money.
