President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, and other international allies to address security challenges.
According to President Mahama, Ghana has been recognized as a beacon of peace in West Africa and beyond, highlighting the need for swift conflict resolution in conflict zones.
Delivering a speech at the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana Armed Forces Council members, he emphasized the pivotal role of the Armed Forces in peacekeeping.
“Ghana has long been a beacon of peace in West Africa and beyond. Our Armed Forces have played a significant role in regional and international peacekeeping operations, working alongside global partners to restore stability in many conflict zones.”
President Mahama indicated that Ghana’s commitment to regional security cooperation remains strong, stressing that Ghana will continue to strengthen its partnerships with other regional bodies, such as ECOWAS and the African Union, as well as international allies, to collectively address security challenges that affect not only Ghana but the entire globe.
He called on the Armed Forces Council to redouble their efforts in positioning Ghana’s military as a premier force in global peacekeeping initiatives.
“The Armed Forces Council must work to deepen these engagements, ensuring that Ghana’s military remains at the forefront of peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and cross-border security initiatives,” he charged.
President Mahama further admonished the Ghana Armed Forces Council to ensure the maintenance of the highest ethical standards, transparency, and accountability within the military.
