President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is a tool to combat corruption and promote accountability, not a means for political persecution.
He emphasized this while addressing the Ghana Bar Association, highlighting ORAL’s role in providing a platform for whistleblowers to report corruption, backed by rigorous investigative procedures.
Mahama acknowledged the pervasive issue of corruption, with many individuals misappropriating public funds.
He noted that corruption was a top concern for Ghanaians during the last campaign, underscoring the need for decisive government action.
The ORAL initiative has received over 2,000 calls on its hotline, with some allegations being substantial enough to be referred to the Attorney General for further investigation.
Mahama stressed that ORAL is a vital mechanism in the fight against corruption, not a tool for witch-hunting or targeting individuals unfairly.
The ORAL committee, established on December 18, 2024, is tasked with tracking and retrieving looted state assets.
The Operation Recover All Loot is led by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and includes notable members like former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo and retired Commissioner of Police Kofi Boakye, Raymond Archer, Investigative journalist Lawyer Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner
