Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has disclosed that he has not seen any of the drones the Akufo – Addo led administration bought to support the fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
It will be recalled that in 2018, the previous government procured over 200 drones at the cost of $3m to assist in the fight against illegal mining across the country.
The machines were to be used to capture live images in districts where illegal mining activities were rampant.
Some 150 persons were trained on how to operate the machines at the George Grant University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa in the Western Region.
But addressing a gathering of management and staff of the Minerals Commission in Accra on Monday Mr. Armah Buah revealed that since assuming office, he has not come across any of the 150 drones which were purchased by the then minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu.
