A Volta River Aviation helicopter (registration 9G-AFW) made an unscheduled emergency landing on the morning of Monday, August 11, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality, Eastern Region. The aircraft, en route from Accra to Kumasi, was compelled to land due to severely reduced visibility caused by deteriorating weather conditions.
A source at the scene confirmed that the pilot and crew members emerged unharmed from the incident.
This event marks the second emergency landing involving the same helicopter within two weeks, raising renewed public concern over aviation safety measures. A similar unscheduled descent occurred in the Central Region on the day the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash took the lives of eight individuals.
Eyewitnesses described the helicopter’s maneuver before landing. According to one account, the aircraft “moved in the sky slowly; it went up, came down a bit and moved backwards” before safely touching down within the community.
