President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Japan ahead of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), scheduled to take place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, 2025.
The President touched down in Tokyo on Emirates flight EK 318, where he was warmly received by Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan, officials of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, and members of the Ghanaian community.
TICAD, launched in 1993, is a flagship international conference on African development led by the Government of Japan and co-organized with the United Nations, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the World Bank.
The forum provides a platform for African leaders and development partners to deliberate on strategies for sustainable growth, investment promotion, and peacebuilding on the continent.
At the Yokohama summit, President Mahama is expected to join fellow African Heads of State and Government, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, senior UN officials, and representatives from international organizations to discuss pathways for deepening cooperation between Africa and Japan.
The conference will focus on strengthening trade and investment, advancing digital and green transitions, improving health systems, and promoting peace and stability in Africa.
President Mahama’s participation underscores Ghana’s commitment to building stronger bilateral and multilateral partnerships in pursuit of inclusive and sustainable development.
