President John Dramani Mahama has announced a 24-month completion deadline for the Dawhenya–Afienya–Dodowa road project, one of the flagship initiatives under his government’s transformative Big Push Infrastructure Programme.
The contractor, Oswal Investments Limited, has assured the government that the project will be delivered ahead of schedule.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony in Afienya on Tuesday, President Mahama underscored the importance of the road project in easing traffic congestion, boosting trade, and enhancing socio-economic development within the corridor.
“This road is not just about asphalt and concrete. It is about opening up communities, reducing travel time, enhancing access to markets, and creating real opportunities for growth.
Under the Big Push, every region, every district, and every community must feel the impact of Ghana’s development,” President Mahama said.
The 10-billion-cedi Big Push Infrastructure Project is a comprehensive initiative designed to modernize Ghana’s road network and extend development to critical sectors, including health, education, agriculture, agribusiness, irrigation, and sports infrastructure.
President Mahama revealed that five sod-cutting ceremonies are being held simultaneously across the country to mark the beginning of major road construction and redevelopment projects. Among the priority roads are:
Ashaiman–Asutuare Road
Oyibi–Appollonia Road
Dodowa–Somanya Road
Dome–Ketase Road
Adentan–Dodowa Road Dualization
He added that as part of the District Roads for Improvement Programme, 166 constituencies with some of the worst road conditions will each benefit from 10 kilometers of new roads and drainage systems.
“Development must be inclusive. We cannot have some parts of our country prospering while others are left behind.
This programme is deliberately designed to spread opportunity and connect every constituency to the national grid of progress,” the President emphasized.
The President commended the contractor, Humphrey Awuletey Williams of Oswal Investment Construction Limited, describing him as one of Ghana’s most reliable contractors.
“Humphrey Williams and his team have proven to be contractors who deliver with speed, efficiency, and uncompromising quality. I have no doubt that this project will be completed ahead of time,” he said.
President Mahama concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to delivering a road infrastructure that matches Ghana’s development ambitions, stressing that the Big Push Programme will serve as a foundation for long-term socio-economic transformation.
