The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed all contractors working under President John Dramani Mahama’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme to secure adequate insurance cover for their projects.
The directive, issued during the sod-cutting ceremony at Afienya on Tuesday, is aimed at ensuring quality assurance and accountability in the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the country.
“Every contractor engaged under the Big Push must secure insurance cover for their projects. If a contractor fails to meet standards or defects arise, the guarantees will be invoked to fund necessary repairs.
This is about protecting the taxpayer’s investment and ensuring that Ghanaians get value for money,” Mr. Agbodza stressed.
The Minister, who joined President Mahama at the ceremony to launch the Dawhenya–Afienya–Dodowa Road Project and other priority roads, said the insurance requirement forms part of government’s broader effort to enforce strict compliance with contract specifications and timelines.
He reiterated that the Mahama-led government will not tolerate shoddy work, adding that contractors who consistently deliver quality will be recognized and supported, while those who fail to meet expectations will face sanctions.
