The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has expressed deep regret following a tragic stampede that occurred today, Wednesday, November 12, 2025, prior to the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment screening exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations, GAF confirmed that the unfortunate incident resulted in the death of six (6) potential recruits and left numerous others injured.
According to the release, preliminary investigations suggest the stampede was triggered around 0620 hours when an unexpected surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed the entrance gates ahead of the scheduled screening time.
The injured individuals were immediately transported and are currently receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital. The GAF assures the general public that its medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilize those affected.
The Ghana Armed Forces conveyed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured.
The release indicates that the GAF is currently making arrangements to officially notify the families of the potential recruits who lost their lives.
”Further updates will be communicated to the public as the situation develops,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, GAF has announced a suspension of the exercise until further notice
