The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to providing an enabling environment to ensure the success of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative at Jubilee Park in Kumasi, President John Dramani Mahama said the programme represents a citizens’ movement for food security and self-reliance.
“Government is fully committed to providing an enabling environment that ensures the success of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Initiative,” he said.
“Key measures will include access to improved poultry breeds and affordable feed formulation, the establishment of 270 Farmer Service Centres to deliver mechanization inputs and extension support, and the expansion of veterinary and animal health services to safeguard the national flock.”
President Mahama also highlighted the operationalization of an innovative agri-financing scheme to provide affordable credit for poultry farmers, as well as strengthened collaboration with district assemblies, private investors, and development partners to anchor the initiative in every community.
“The success of this programme depends on our collective efforts. It is a citizens’ movement for food security and self-reliance,” he added. “To our traditional and religious leaders, your voices will inspire communities.
“I urge you to champion this initiative in your localities. To our women and youth, embrace this opportunity to build sustainable family businesses and transform your economic future.”
The President further called on development partners and private sector actors to actively participate in the programme.
“To our development partners, we sincerely appreciate your enduring partnership and invite you to align your support with this national vision. And to our private sector actors, invest boldly in hatcheries, feed mills, cold chain systems, and processing plants. Together, we can turn Ghana into a regional poultry powerhouse,” he said.
President Mahama concluded by stressing the symbolic importance of the initiative:
“The Nkoko Nkitinkiti Initiative represents more than poultry production—it embodies the spirit of renewal and self-belief. Let us therefore take pride in producing what we eat and eating what we make.”
The initiative, which seeks to boost local poultry production, create jobs, and strengthen food security, is expected to have a nationwide impact on communities and the agricultural sector.
