The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has presented some Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to the Ministry of Health to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The over US$400,000 worth of PPEs comprise, ventilators, infrared thermometers,KN95 goggles, surgical gloves, medical shoe covers, disinfectants, isolation gowns, wipes, masks amongst other medical supplies were presented by the Peoples Republic of China and companies that have subsidiaries in Ghana.
Speaking at a short ceremony to hand over the equipments to the Health Ministry, a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Charles Owiredu said “since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has been at the forefront of coordinating international support for Ghana’s fight against the pandemic”.
The Ministry together with its missions abroad have been working tirelessly to guarantee the interest and welfare of Ghanaians abroad as well as to mobilize resources and good will to support our country’s fight against the deadly virus,” he emphasized.
He therefore on behalf of the substantive Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey expressed gratitude to the Embassy in China for the gesture indicating that “the speedy arrival of these much needed medical supplies which will no doubt go a long way to augment the efforts of government to fight this pandemic”.
He also expressed his outfit’s and government’s appreciation to to all the Chinese companies that contributed towards the donation of the PPEs stressing that “we are particularly grateful to Tianyun Manganese, the parent company of Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) for generously donating more than half of these medical supplies on display here today.”
Receiving the items, A Deputy Minister of Health, and Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Dr. Bernard Oko Boye lauded the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Mission in China and the companies that responded to the plea adding that their gesture will go a long way to boost government’s effort in the fight against the virus.
He also indicated that since government will at all times distribute medical supplies to the various health facilities and these items are disposables, they can possibly get finished, but assured that government will always ensure they are restocked or resupplied.
Dr. Oko Boye further appealed to both public and private sector to emulate the gesture by partnering government to curtail the spread of the pandemic.
