The Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Julius Debrah, has warmly welcomed President John Dramani Mahama back to Ghana, praising his leadership and international advocacy on behalf of the nation.
Delivering a welcome address, Mr. Debrah reflected on Ghana’s historic legacy, drawing a connection between past and present leadership.
“Mr. President, if we had not controlled the numbers, I believe we couldn’t have stood it. Why are we here? Several years ago, our first president, Kwame Nkrumah, when he led the African liberation struggle, made Ghana proud, and we became the first Sub-Saharan African country to gain independence,” he stated.
He noted that years after Ghana’s independence, the continent continues to look to Ghana for leadership, singling out President Mahama’s role on the global stage.
“When the entire African Union was looking for somebody courageous, bold, and wise to lead the charge, they found no one but our President, John Dramani Mahama,” he added.
Mr. Debrah also paid tribute to the President’s heritage and family, stating, “Mr. President, your forebears, Ndewura Jakpa, will be so proud of you, and your late father, Emmanuel Adama Mahama, I believe will be very, very proud of you.”
Highlighting the President’s recent international efforts, the Chief of Staff commended his advocacy at the United Nations.
“Ghana as a whole, we are very proud of you for leading the charge to the United Nations to call for the acknowledgement that slavery is the gravest crime against humanity and to call for reparations an assignment you executed excellently,” he said.
He concluded with a message of national pride and appreciation, “Mr. President, on behalf of the government, on behalf of the presidency, and on behalf of the good people of Ghana, we welcome you home, and we are so proud of you. Thank you for raising Ghana again.”
