The Ghana Police Service has interdicted five of its personnel following the circulation of viral videos allegedly showing the officers engaging in conduct that brings the service into disrepute.
In a press release issued by the Police Headquarters in Accra, the affected officers were identified as Chief Inspector Matthew Blay, Chief Inspector Francis Arthur, Inspector Eric Osei of the Osu Police Station, Sergeant Amos Dery of the National Protection Unit (NPU), and Inspector Joseph Okyere Asabre of the Obuasi Police District.
According to the statement, the officers have been handed over to the Police Professional Standards Bureau for investigations in line with internal disciplinary procedures. The move signals what authorities describe as a commitment to maintaining discipline and public trust within the service.
“The Ghana Police Service reiterates its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and accountability,” the statement noted, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken upon conclusion of the investigations.
The release was signed by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director-General of Public Affairs.
The incident has sparked public discussion about police conduct and accountability, especially in an era where social media continues to expose actions of public officials in real time.
