The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has honoured the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, for what it describes as his outstanding leadership and relentless commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers across the country.
The recognition, presented as a Citation of Honour during the Association’s 20th anniversary celebration, acknowledges the Minister’s impactful role in advancing farmer-centred policies and driving agricultural transformation in Ghana.
PFAG praised Mr Opoku for demonstrating “leadership, courage, and conviction” in the execution of his mandate, noting that his initiatives have significantly improved the welfare of farmers nationwide.
According to the citation, the Minister’s efforts through the development of targeted programmes have “touched the lives of several members of the association in ways that have never been felt before.”
The Association further commended his open-door leadership style, describing him as accessible, collaborative, and deeply committed to engaging stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
“Your open-door policy, affable nature, and willingness to work with stakeholders have contributed to the significant success chalked within your first few years in office,” the citation noted.
PFAG highlighted Mr Opoku’s particular focus on addressing the needs of smallholder farmers, describing his support as instrumental in transforming the sector and improving productivity and livelihoods.
The Association emphasised that his contributions have had a far-reaching impact, with the potential to uplift millions of farmers and strengthen Ghana’s food security agenda.
It also described the honour as a symbol of the deep appreciation and gratitude of its entire membership, acknowledging the Minister’s enduring commitment to the well-being of farmers across the country.
“Your actions have left an indelible mark on the soul of this organization,” the citation stated.
The recognition comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to boost agricultural productivity, promote sustainable farming practices, and enhance support for smallholder farmers.
PFAG reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to sustain the gains made and drive further transformation in the sector.
