More than 400 women benefitted from a special health screening and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) renewal exercise organized by Accra-based Woezor TV as part of activities commemorating this year’s Mother’s Day celebration.
The initiative, dubbed “Mother’s Day Treat,” brought together traders at the Abelemkpe Santana Market as well as residents from surrounding communities including Alajo and New Boi Town.
Beneficiaries underwent free preventive health screening for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, malaria, typhoid, and Hepatitis B.
Participants also received blood group testing, physical examination, medical counselling, and public education on preventive healthcare.
As part of the outreach programme, women who were not enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme were registered free of charge, while those with expired NHIS cards were assisted to renew their subscriptions.
Organisers said the exercise formed part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare and improve access to basic health services among women and vulnerable members of the community.
Woezor TV also presented souvenirs and gifts to participants in appreciation of the critical role mothers play in raising families and contributing to national development.
The event, which lasted from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., was interspersed with music and health education sessions aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and regular medical check-ups.
The outreach programme received support from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, EventPR, Twellium Ghana Limited, Total House Clinic, Garnet Medical Centre, A1 Bread and Bakery, C-MatiVents Company Limited, and Vision Creative Company Limited.
