The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has announced the postponement of the implementation of the revised Container Administrative Charge (CAC) following intervention by the Minister of Transport.
According to a public notice issued by the Authority, the revised charges, which were initially scheduled to take effect on May 1, 2026, have now been deferred to July 1, 2026.
The Authority explained that the extension period will allow for broader stakeholder consultations and strategic engagements aimed at ensuring that the final fee structure reflects the interests of all parties within the shipping and logistics industry.
Pending the final determination in July, the Minister has also directed the immediate introduction of an interim regulatory cap on the Container Administrative Charge.
Under the directive, the charge must not exceed GH¢720 per Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) for both import and export containers.
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority said the temporary cap takes immediate effect and urged all stakeholders in the shipping sector to comply fully with the directive.
The Authority noted that the decision is intended to promote fairness and stability within the industry while ongoing consultations continue over the revised fee structure.
