The Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority has praised the contributions of Ghanaian women in the maritime sector, stressing that diversity and equal participation remain critical to innovation, industry growth, and national development.
Speaking as the world marked the International Day for Women in Maritime, the Director-General, Kamal-Deen Ali, commended women across the maritime industry for their resilience, professionalism, and increasing impact in a traditionally male-dominated field.
“Diversity and equal participation are essential to unlocking innovation, strengthening Ghana’s maritime industry and advancing national development,” he stated.
The celebration forms part of a global initiative led by the International Maritime Organization to recognize and promote the role of women in the maritime sector, including seafaring, port operations, maritime administration, logistics, engineering, and maritime security.
Mr. Kamal-Deen Ali noted that women continue to break barriers and contribute significantly to the growth and modernization of Ghana’s maritime space.
He emphasized that empowering women and creating equal opportunities within the industry would not only improve productivity but also promote sustainability and innovation across the sector.
According to him, the Ghana Maritime Authority remains committed to supporting policies and initiatives that encourage greater female participation and leadership in maritime-related professions.
The Authority also acknowledged the dedication of women working in various capacities within Ghana’s ports, shipping, offshore operations, maritime education, and regulatory institutions.
The International Day for Women in Maritime is celebrated annually to highlight the achievements of women in the maritime industry and advocate increased gender inclusion within the global maritime workforce.
