The Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening engagement with Ghanaian communities across the United States, pledging enhanced consular services and closer collaboration with diaspora groups as part of efforts to deepen people-to-people diplomacy.
The assurance was given by Ghana’s Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Mrs. Jane Gasu Aheto, during the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Jesus Power Assembly of God Church in Columbus, Ohio, on September 13, 2026.
Addressing congregants and community leaders, Ambassador Gasu Aheto emphasized that Ghanaian communities in Ohio remain an important part of the Embassy’s engagement strategy, noting that the mission is adopting a more proactive approach to citizen diplomacy by taking essential consular services directly to Ghanaians living across the United States.
According to her, the initiative is designed to improve access to government services, strengthen trust between the state and its citizens abroad, and enhance relations between Ghana and its diaspora communities.
She disclosed that the Embassy has already undertaken successful outreach missions in Massachusetts, Atlanta, and Texas, bringing consular services closer to Ghanaians and reducing the burden of long-distance travel for passport, documentation and other official services.
Ambassador Gasu Aheto also acknowledged the significant contribution of Ohio’s Ghanaian community, describing it as a highly skilled and vibrant population that plays an important role in promoting Ghana’s economic, social and cultural interests abroad.
She further assured the community that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively addressing recent digital infrastructure challenges that affected access to online consular portals, adding that efforts are underway to fully restore and improve the system.
Founder and Head Pastor of Jesus Power Assembly of God Church, Apostle Bismark Osei Akomeah, commended the Embassy for its outreach efforts and encouraged the mission to expand community-based engagement initiatives to ensure that more Ghanaians can benefit from consular services and government programmes.
The event highlighted the growing role of faith-based organizations in connecting diaspora communities with national institutions, as the Embassy continues to leverage grassroots engagement as a key tool for strengthening Ghana’s presence and relationship with its citizens abroad.
The renewed outreach initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Government of Ghana to deepen diaspora participation in national development and strengthen ties with Ghanaian communities across the world.
