Former Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Catherine Deynu, has officially submitted nomination forms on behalf of veteran party financier Alfred Kofi Agbesi Woyome to contest the position of National Vice Chairman.
Addressing journalists after submitting the documents, Dr Deynu described Woyome as a selfless patriot who had made significant personal sacrifices towards the party’s electoral victories.

She highlighted his contribution to the NDC’s return to power in 2009, recounting his decision to leave a prominent international position to support the party.
“He left whatever he was doing out there with former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. He was his personal assistant and an adviser. He left everything he was doing to come to Ghana and ensure that our party, the National Democratic Congress, won power in 2009,” Dr Deynu stated.
Describing him as a strong advocate for grassroots development, Dr Deynu highlighted Woyome’s investments in human resource development and capacity building across the constituency, regional and national levels of the party.
“He sponsored over 1,500 people to South Africa to build their capacity, including NDC grassroots members at the constituency, regional and higher levels,” she revealed.
Beyond capacity building, Dr Deynu emphasised that Woyome had been a major financial supporter of the party, contributing to grassroots activities and undertaking philanthropic initiatives, including support for Muslim members to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage.
“He has also supported many of our Muslim brothers to perform the Hajj. He has sponsored not less than 450 people to the Holy Land. Many out there can attest to this fact,” Dr Deynu said.

She maintained that Woyome’s decision to contest the National Vice Chairmanship was informed by his desire to contribute at the highest level of the party’s leadership and ensure that grassroots structures were adequately resourced ahead of future elections.
“He has done a lot for the party, and this is the time for him to be at the top level to ensure that our grassroots are empowered,” Dr Deynu declared.
