President John Dramani Mahama has held discussions with Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), on policy measures to strengthen financial health and deepen financial inclusion in Ghana.
The meeting focused on strategies to expand access to affordable, accessible and tailored financial products, particularly for informal sector workers, women and smallholder farmers, who often face challenges accessing appropriate financial services.
Discussions also centred on the role of digital financial innovation in improving access to financial services, as well as the need for enhanced data sharing among financial service providers to support more effective and inclusive financial solutions.
Other key issues included strengthening long-term savings and pension schemes to promote financial security, particularly among workers in the informal economy.
President Mahama and Queen Máxima also highlighted the importance of stronger consumer protection mechanisms to safeguard customers against fraud, financial scams and other emerging risks associated with digital financial transactions.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to build a more inclusive and resilient financial system in Ghana, where individuals, households and businesses can access financial services that improve their economic security and long-term well-being.
