A Professor of History and Africana Studies Edmund Abaka has stated that the question of whether Ghana should celebrate a “Founder’s” or “Founders’’” Day can only be settled by professionals.
The Nana Akufo-Addo moved the celebration, which was held every 9 September to August 4 ostensibly to recognize everyone who played a role in the Founding of Ghana.
The New Patriotic Party administration also changed the name of the day from Founder’s Day to Founders’ Day.
September 9 is the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the man who led the struggle for independence whiles 4 August marks the date when the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was set up.

The Founder’s Day was instituted by the Late President Prof. J.E.A Mills and was marked on September 9 until Nana Akufo-Addo came to power and decided that it be moved to August 4 and called Founders’ Day.
This has led to accusations of an attempt by this current administration to project its forebears ahead of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Prof. Abaka told Sena Nombo on Pro-Forum Hour, the matter will continue to be a subject of political football until the Historians are allowed to settle it.
