Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held high-level talks with Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, ahead of the historic state visit of President John Dramani Mahama to Jamaica.
The meeting took place in Kingston ahead of President Mahama’s visit, which is being undertaken at the invitation of Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
During the engagement, the two Foreign Ministers expressed confidence in the growing relationship between Ghana and Jamaica and underscored the importance of expanding cooperation across key sectors.
They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in trade, culture, maritime affairs, education, healthcare, and other areas of mutual interest, describing the upcoming state visit as an opportunity to deepen collaboration between the two countries.
The discussions also highlighted the longstanding historical and cultural bonds between Ghana and Jamaica, with both sides expressing optimism that President Mahama’s visit would usher in a new phase of strategic partnership.
The state visit is expected to feature bilateral engagements aimed at enhancing diplomatic relations, promoting economic cooperation, and exploring new opportunities for investment and people-to-people exchanges.
President Mahama’s visit is regarded as a significant milestone in Ghana-Jamaica relations and is expected to reinforce the two nations’ shared commitment to advancing cooperation for mutual growth and development.
